Carolyn Black-Sotir is one of those singers who thrives in both popular and classical music worlds.  As guest soprano soloist, she has appeared with numerous regional ensembles including Annapolis, Lancaster, and Maryland Symphony Orchestras.  Performed repertoire includes Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Mozart’s Mass in C Major and Exultate Jubilate, Vaughn Williams’s Hodie, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. John’s Passion, and “Sesto” in a concert version of Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito.

As guest recitalist, Dr. Black-Sotir performs extensively on the university and concert circuits, presenting programs here and abroad ranging from the music of Medieval Europe to 21st century America.  Forgoing stuffy conventions, Carolyn pulls from the rich tradition of the song recital and creates rich, multi-dimensional performances by adding theatrical and visual  components. The programs combine meticulous research, exceptional musical interpretation, theatrical production elements, compelling narrative, and engaging visual images.
